Our Self Driving Destinations
Here's what you need to know about driving in Central Africa.
Malawi
Malawi’s roads are an adventure in themselves — a blend of smooth tarmac highways and winding dirt tracks that lead you through breathtaking landscapes. In recent years, major upgrades have made travelling across the country easier than ever. Around trading centres, the roads come alive with bicycles, bustling markets, and goats or chickens crossing your path. Take it slow, soak up the scenes, and enjoy every moment of the journey.
Zambia
Zambia is an adventurous self-drive destination. The road network is simple, and many destinations are remote and located on dirt roads that can be inaccessible during the rainy season. Outside of the capital city, Lusaka, main roads can be busy with trucks and have uneven and potholed sections. It's best to take your time on the road and slow your journey down to avoid driving at night. 4-wheel drive is essential for many national parks where sand driving, riverbed crossings and escarpments require experience.
Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe offers a rewarding road trip for the confident traveller — Remote locations coupled with busy main roads means vigilance and patience is required.
Outside of the main cities, roads are not maintained and can be narrow with deceptively deep potholes. Zimbabwe however is one of those countries that if you need help on the road, it's given freely!
Some national parks may be inaccessible during the rains and don't count on your GPS!
