Dzalanyama Forest Lodge
Just 40km South East of the Capital City, Lilongwe - Dzalanyama Forest covers an impressive 989.35sq km of mountain range between the border of Malawi and Mozambique and reaches altitudes between 1100m to 1650m.
This secretive and expansive forest reserve is one of Malawi's premier Miombo birding localities, an ornithologists delight with species such as the Olive-headed Weaver, Miombo Pied Barbet, Boulder Chat, White-tailed Flycatcher, Black-eared Seedeater and Stierlings Woodpecker.
Driving Directions
Dzalanyama is located West Southwest of Lilongwe. Road conditions may very at different times of the year and the lodge may be inaccessible unexpectedly during the peak rains in Malawi (Between December and February) 4 Wheel drive is recommended during this time of the year. Land and Lake Safaris and Dzalanyama Forest Lodge cannot take responsibility for the road conditions.
Dzalanyama Forest Lodge is not sign posted and google maps can be inaccurate. Please follow the below driving directions. Note, Cell phone signal may be intermittent the closer you get to the forest.
(From Lilongwe): Drive towards Mchinji (Zambian Border) and turn left at the main Nsundwe trading center before the fuel station. At the sign labeled "Child Legacy Community Hospital"
Continue down this dirt track straight. Bare left and stay on the main track, pass Child Legacy on your right and continue through the trading center.
At the T-junction, (the Dalanyama mountain range is in front of you) Turn left through Kachawe Estate and the macadamias.
Follow this road around to the right to Ndaula Trading Center.
Just after the fuel station there is a school, turn immediately right after the school past Lymons Private Clinic. Continue following this road straight. You'll reach and water tank in front of you, keep left at this split in the road and then follow the main track round to the right through the next two villages.
After Kachere Village you'll reach a T-junction, turn right here to the Dzalanyama Entrance. Follow the forest road straight to the lodge, baring left.
